Humpday Chicken
Dec. 6th, 2017 11:43 pmIt is Wednesday, and here we are.
A breath for Wednesday. A breath for doing this quickly so I can do Bed Before Midnight.
Ta-da!
Conducted a rehearsal on very short notice on Friday. Heard my music sung in St Paul's Cathedral (yes, that one) on Saturday. Sang in an Advent Procession service on Sunday. Led Sung Compline wth Exposition and Silent Prayer Before the Blessed Sacrament on Monday night, and worked out why I was having such difficulty getting the lunette out of the monstrance afterward (I was putting it in backward. If this sounds like nonsense to you, file it under Anglo-Catholic problems.) Did some Cecilia's List stuff, including starting to make the site more accessible for people using screenreaders. Conducted the LGQ concert tonight.
The Hard
A deadline I thought was end of January has been moved, such that my "quiet" December just tipped over from moderately busy to silly.
Beloved Spouse has been working too hard and too late and I am struggling not to feel abandoned and neglected as a result, even though he's actually doing it partly because his income means I can do things like, oh, an expensive PhD, or making most of my money from composing.
In common with most Decembers, I'm starting to run out of steam a bit, and would like an extra day per week to rest, and an additional extra day to play catch-up. Not happening.
I'm still behind on admin.
The Good
Hearing my music at St Paul's was very nifty, and I actually had seats where you can hear what's going on, which is... unusual, to say the least.
The LGQ concert went very well.
I've made some sensible self-care decisions, and I'm trying out doing some batch cooking, and it's going well.
Quests
Sort out Chichester stuff. Check comps and ops. Multitude of Voyces. Chor Leoni. Make a composing PLN for December so I know what I'm ignoring. More Cecilia's List stuff. Patreon admin. All the laundry.
The PLN
Keep working on the self-care stuff, some of which is already helping.
Don't try to do too many things at once. It's probably time to implement the 3 things on a post-it" strategy. (I write three things from my to-do list down on a post-it note or index card or scrap of paper; I'm not allowed to look at the big list at all again until I've done those things and taken a break, but it doesn't matter what order I do them in. I try to go for one thinky thing and one practical chore and one easy win, but it doesn't always work that way. Three seems to be the number of things I can look at on a list without getting overwhelmed.)
How are you?
What have you done? What are your quests? What is hard in your life? What is good? What is your PLN (or plan)? What is your favourite tree, if you have one?
